2009 Photography Revisited

In a effort to start blogging more frequently about my different creative endeavors. I am borrowing an idea to post some of my favorite random photos I shot during this past year of 2009. These are from various adventures I took part in this past year. More photos of mine can be seen at my FLICKR site. Enjoy!

2009 Holiday Coloring Book Project

I recently had a hand in directing a coloring book for the Autumn Society artist collective of Philadelphia. The coloring book is collected drawings from members of the group along with a few friends of mine from SVA. What made the book extra special was that it was distributed to local childcare centers in Southern New Jersey and in Philadelphia. With a goal of hoping to spread some holiday cheer to those less fortunate in our local communities.

A special thanks to all contributed in making this project and gift to our community possible. Below are some photos of the coloring book and its interior art.

GOLDEN AGE SHOW / WRITE UP

This past July 4th weekend, brought another Autumn Society show to the city of Philadelphia.  This time the show featured illustrations and art created around 1930’s and 1940’s cartoons and animations. I did a Popeye influenced piece with a guest appearance featuring tattoo legend Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins.

My piece and the show got a nice write up from Jerry Beck over at CartoonBrew.com. The write up is seen below with my Popeye image. To read the full write up, featuring other highlights and images please click here.

June Update – First Friday Philadelphia

This past weekend I helped organize and participate in the Autumn Society of Philadelphia’s latest gallery show entitled,  8o’s Pop!!! Over 50+ artist-contributed illustrations based around 1980’s cult classics including movies, musicians, and cartoons.

Regardless of the rainfall, the First Friday opening celebration packed the house bringing another success to the new collective. Congrats to all who participated!

Special Thanks to:
Joseph Game, Alex Eckman-Lawn, Jeff Desantis, and Eric Braddock. Also a big thanks to Rob and Brain who hosted this show at Brave New Worlds Comics.

SVA MFA Illustration Thesis Show 2009

Opening on May 1st 2009, myself and 19 other classmates will be exhibiting selected works from our thesis projects this past year at the School Of Visual Arts. Part our promotion for the show was developing a poster that would showcase fun portraits of all of us, instructors included. I drew Edwin Vazquez and Heejin Roh did my portrait.  I also had the pleasure of  doing a portrait of SVA alumni, and need I say all around killer artist Nathan Fox.

Below is the poster and mentioned portraits of Edwin, Nathan, and myself.

Also special thanks to Rich Tu, for his art direction and all around effort in bringing this poster to life.
